History

Tengam Engineering, Incorporated is a manufacturer of specialized, injection molded bonded ferrite and injection molded bonded neodymium magnets and molded magnetic assemblies. We are dedicated to providing a high quality product to users of bonded magnets. We offer a solid base of knowledge to help determine the best design and material to efficiently meet their needs. We also recognize the importance in part design by integrating engineered thermoplastics into molded magnetic assemblies.

Also offered are custom magnetizers, magnetizing fixtures and test devices all of which are engineered and built in-house for use on production applications. Much time is spent focusing on specific magnetic application problems and applying them in the finished product to meet customer needs.

Tengam Engineering has been an important leader in the magnet industry for over three decades. During this period of time we have experienced tremendous growth that can be attributed to high quality products, dedicated service, innovative problem solving and customer satisfaction. We have also built a large customer base that has given us the opportunity to become involved in industries such as automotive, medical, security, industrial and specialty motors and aerospace.

Wm. Roger McPherson founded Tengam Engineering in 1972. The original product engineered was a convergence ring magnet for the television industry that was molded along with a part produced by McPherson Plastics, a family run plastics business. They were then producing parts for a Michigan manufacturer of television components. The process involved a two-step procedure using magnetic sheeting that was die-cut and then placed into a molded plastic ring. Roger improved the process and met the challenge of producing an industry first...mixing barium ferrite into a polymer and molding the part in a one step process.  That was the beginning of Tengam Engineering. This leading innovation had a very strong impact in the marketplace and the magnet industry. Roger was quick to start developing better ways to produce parts using complex materials and using innovative techniques in the molding process. Tengam was soon a well-known name in the magnet industry.

In 1986 Magnequench International introduced a revolutionary powder that would change the way the world saw magnets. Tengam was quick to research and develop an injection moldable compound and produced the worlds first polymer bonded neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) magnet. Since then the "MQ" powder has played a crucial role in Tengam’s continued success.

Tengam has seen many years of strong growth developing custom magnets. These growths have led to moving facilities to 545 Washington Street. Since that move in 1990 the building has been expanded and houses 20 injection molding machines. Tengam has sold over 3 billion magnets and consumed 10 million pounds of magnetic material. For over 25 years it has had a strong presence both nationally and internationally as an industry leader.

As a key player in the world market, Tengam Engineering offers innovative solutions to engineering and design problems. We take defined steps to produce the highest quality products that are expected in today’s market place. Our team looks forward to meeting and exceeding all of your magnetic needs.

Sincerely,
