Tengam’s manufacturing employees are dedicated to maintaining our outstanding industry reputation for high-quality parts and timely deliveries. Each employee is committed to performing his or her duties to the very best of their abilities. This job expertise combined with a low employee-turnover rate result in an experienced, highly-skilled labor force our company proudly recognizes.
Wm. Roger McPherson, Chairman of the Board
Roger McPherson founded Tengam in 1972, after developing and engineering a convergence-ring magnet for the television industry. It was molded along with a part produced by McPherson Plastics, a family-run plastics business. Roger improved the manufacturing process and met the challenge of producing an industry first: injection-molded magnets. This leading innovation had a strong impact in the marketplace and the magnet industry. Roger was quick to start developing better ways to produce parts using complex materials and innovative molding process techniques. With over 40 years of inventive ideas, Roger has continued to expand and improve upon his original manufacturing advancements, and has overseen Tengam’s steady growth. Roger is happily married, has two grown children and three grandchildren.
Mark W. McPherson, President
Mark is a third-generation family business owner/operator who, as a child, watched an industry develop and has now been directly involved in for 20+ years. He is involved in day-to-day operations including: advanced engineering projects; magnet, magnetizing, and magnetizer design; magnetic compound formulation; injection molds and molding for soft and hard magnetic compounds, powdered metals, base polymers and engineered thermoplastics; injection-mold tooling and assembly design; automation concepts and planning; equipment sourcing and planning; quality control and implementation of ISO 9001 and TS 16949; sales and marketing; finance; human resources; business management and planning; construction planning and coordination; and will also take out garbage or mow the lawn when needed. Mark attended KVCC for general education, Western Michigan University for Music Education and Business Management, and Davenport College for Business Management. He is a Christian, husband, father, son, and employer who loves God, his family and his employees. He strives for excellence in the workplace, uses innovation in product concepts and production design, and is passionate about customer satisfaction. When not at Tengam he can be found on the golf course, on his bicycle or at his mother’s restaurant, Maude’s Taphouse, where he is the craft beer guru.
“Never mind what the past has delivered to you but do remember what it has taught you. So be passionate about your forward-moving life, trust in your beliefs and in yourself, all while recognizing that you will never be able to do what your heart does not feel and what your mind did not imagine.”
Jeff Spitzner, Business Development Manager
Jeff joined the Tengam team in March of 2017, bringing with him an extensive range of knowledge. Jeff began his career in the United States Navy with a focus on operating and maintaining all the ships’ motor and generator sets. Following his tenure with the Navy, Jeff received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Western Michigan University. With degree in hand and experience in motors and generators, Jeff worked in the magnet and motor-winding business with responsibilities ranging from design, to quality, to product-line manager. Jeff’s most recent employment gave him great experience in the heavy-truck industry, starting out as an engineer and eventually moving on to account management, sales and marketing. During this time Jeff earned his MBA in Global Management from the University of Phoenix.
Jeff and his family have a heart for serving their community through foster care. His family has taken in 11 children so far, ranging from new born to seven years old. Some of them only stay for a few days while others have been long term. One was made a permanent addition to their family, when they adopted a one-year-old girl in November of 2016. That adoption had a significant impact on Jeff’s family, showing them just a glimpse of the depth of love Jesus has for each person, thus providing the strong desire to continue serving the community.
“When the horse dies, dismount.” Don’t let status quo run your business, it will never grow.
Greg Johnson, Manager of Operations & Product Design
Greg joined Tengam in October of 2011 and leads Tengam Operations and Product Design. He is responsible for creating and maintaining adherence to manufacturing and production standards, feasibility of customer requests, and providing direction and verification through proactive lines of communication between the customer and the Tengam team. Greg has over 18 years of extensive experience in product development and manufacturing processes, from concept through production.
Greg’s scope of experience is founded on high integrity and a B.S. Engineering degree with emphasis in plastics processing. His experience is further highlighted by leading product design, project management, employee development, quality systems, implementing standards, specification of fabrication, and product launch with a passion and commitment to meet the needs of the customer.
Outside of work, Greg enjoys family time with his wife and five kids, time with friends, golfing, and woodworking.
“Today’s accomplishments lead to tomorrow’s success.”
Andrew Hirzel, Senior Engineer
Andy is deeply involved in magnet FEA design, testing, manufacturing processing, quality control, and magnetization. Applications he has successfully undertaken have ranged from single-particle magnetization analysis to 500 kW 1000 Hz synchronous motors. His theoretical understanding (Maxwell’s equations, anyone?) combined with practical factory experience provide a great fit to Tengam’s team. You will find that every subject related to magnetics is interesting to Andy, no matter the detail.
Andy graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s in Industrial & Operational Engineering: a background that, like most magnet people, was not specifically in the field. He has wide-ranging experience in manufacturing, but after he drifted over to the domain of magnetics he has never quite broken free of that fundamental attractive force.
When not looking for magnet flux, Andy stays plenty busy with his wife and daughters. Andy is also prone to running nearly any distance, with any fellow runner. Stop by with your running shoes on, anytime.
Paula Ramey, Quality Manager
Paula is responsible for management and oversight of Tengam’s Quality Control Department. Her career began 25 years ago as she began working in plastic injection molding and manufacturing. She enjoys spending time with family, bowling, camping, and the great outdoors.
Stacey Furgason, Controller and Human Resources Administrator
Since 2008, Stacey has helped ensure that Tengam’s daily business operations run smoothly. In addition to her controller and human-resources responsibilities, she excels as the company therapist and official shoe consultant. Stacey is a CPA and holds an MBA from Western Michigan University. When not at work, she is busy as her daughter’s chauffer and is an avid cyclist.
Mark Morey, Purchasing
Mark has been with Tengam Engineering Inc. since January 2011. In addition to his purchasing duties, Morey is also responsible for inventory management and production/material forecasting. Mark is married and has two children. He absolutely loves spending as much free time with his wife and little ones as possible.
